Several things may happen if you cannot successfully answer the officer’s questions at your Green Card Interview. The government may issue a Request for Evidence (RFE). This will provide you with an additional opportunity to address the outstanding questions that remain in your case. Otherwise, the government may issue a Notice of Intent to Deny (NOID),
advising you that the government intends to deny your application for a green card.

If you appear for your green card interview, your application for a green card may get dismissed for lack of prosecution and denied. There is also the possibility that your case could get rescheduled, but this is not likely. If your application is dismissed and denied, you may be able to file a Motion to Reopen, explaining the reason for your failure to appear at the interview.

You may also be able to refile your case, but you must pay the filing fees again. Therefore, it is best to show up for your green card interview and avoid the adverse consequences of failing to appear at the interview.
